GANAGO  - NOT JUST WAKE AND SURF
American University of Beirut - 2018
Plastic pollution has become a significant global concern, with only a small fraction of recyclable waste being recycled in most countries. In Ghana, plastic waste has filled many beaches, rivers, and gutters, adversely affecting the environment and the community.
This project aims to transform this challenge into an opportunity by enabling the community to establish a business while cleaning up their surroundings. This innovative solution promises to be a game-changer for hundreds of people, providing not just a product but a comprehensive solution.
The product is made from recycled plastic board panels, which are readily available from Cedar Environmental L.L.C., a waste recycling company in Lebanon. The boards are manufactured by compressing and heating shredded plastic bags together, using the same process as wooden surfboards.
The GANAGO company will comprise a workshop where individuals can learn to make surfboards, a training school for surfing and instruction, a store for selling boards, and events for beach cleanups. This business idea will help engage the local community in environmental conservation while offering them new opportunities for their future.
The same materials were utilized to build the wakeboard. A CNC machine was used to shape the wakeboard and was assembled together by glue. A sanding tool was then used to refine and perfect the surface of the wakeboard.
